Who is Poet Tu Xuong?
Poet Tu Xuong is considered a rare phenomenon in Vietnamese poetry. He composes seemingly just for fun, to read to friends and relatives, and then arbitrarily transmits it orally. In Tu Xuong's poetry, the harmony between realism and satire can be felt, but lyricism is the root. He often composes Nom poetry in the form of seven-word verse eight, four, four, phu, literature, couplets, singing, four great, phu, and six bowls. In any genre, Tu Xuong proved to be a master poet.
Tu Xuong's real name is Tran Te Xuong, another name is Tran Duy Uyen, self Mong Tich, Tu Thinh, brand name Mac Trai. The word Xuong in the pseudonym Tu Xuong means "prosperity" (also means beautiful, straight). However, the meaning of this word "bone" has been deliberately "distorted" by satirists later on into "flesh". And since then they have honored him as the ancestor of a "sect" that gathers disciples who "follow" academic degrees such as: Tu Mo, Tu Man, Cuu Lean, Tu Poanh, Do Phon...
On January 29, 1907, while pursuing his academic career, he suddenly passed away.
Poet Xuan Dieu ranked Tu Xuong in the 5th position after the four most famous poets, Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Du, Ho Xuan Huong and Doan Thi Diem. Meanwhile, writer Nguyen Cong Hoan honored him "sacred poetry".
