Who is Journalist Ray Stannard Baker?
Ray Stannard Baker, also known by the pen name David Grayson, is an American journalist, historian, expert, and biographer of Woodrow Wilson. Baker died of a heart attack in Amherst, Massachusetts, and is buried at Wildwood Cemetery.
In recognition of his dedication, many buildings have been named after Ray Stannard Baker and his pen name David Grayson. That is the Grayson Hall dormitory at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; David Grayson Elementary School in Waterford, Michigan; an academic building - Baker Hall at Michigan State University.

After graduating from State Agricultural College (now Michigan State University), he entered the University of Michigan law school in 1891. In 1982 he began his career as a journalist for the Chicago newspaper. News-Record, where he wrote Pullman Strike and Coxey's Army in 1894.
In 1898, Baker joined the staff of McClure magazine. As well as novels, he began writing children's stories for Youth magazine and a series of stories about rural life in America were born, the first of which was written in 1910 entitled "Adventures in Contentment" under the pen name of Mr. David Grayson, read by millions of readers worldwide.
In 1907, dissatisfied with his job at McClure magazine, Baker, along with two friends, Steffens and Tarbell, left from McClure and founded "The American" Magazine.
From 1906 to 1908, Baker published Following the Color Line, the book's success exceeded his expectations.
In 1912, Baker supported the Woodrow Wilson presidential candidacy, leading to a close relationship between these two men. In 1918, Wilson sent Baker to Europe to study the war situation. During the peace negotiations, Baker served as Wilson's press secretary at Versailles. Eventually, he published 15 volumes on Wilson and internationalism.
In 1944, he served as a consultant on the Wilson film and Baker wrote three autobiographical books, Native American (1941), American Chronicle (1945) and Turtles (1943).
