"Verbs." During the 1920s and again in the early 1930s, this Republican politician served as Governor of Pennsylvania. Also a forester, he was notably the first Chief of the United States Forest Service, a position he held from 1905 to 1910.
After its establishment and as president of the National Conservation Commission, he launched an unsuccessful Pennsylvania campaign for a Progressive Party seat in the United States Senate.
