Tong Thi Phong is currently a member of the Politburo, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Deputy Secretary of the National Assembly Delegation of Vietnam. As of 2011, Ms. Tong Thi Phong is the second woman in the Politburo and the first ethnic minority woman to hold the position of Politburo member.
Mrs. Tong Thi Phong is a citizen. Thai tribe. She used to participate in youth activities and local government work. On November 20, 1981, she was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam. After that, she was sent to study and graduated with an advanced degree in political theory and a bachelor's degree in Law. In 1995, she was elected Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Son La Province, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council. Ms. Tong Thi Phong is a member of the Central Committee of the Party, term VIII and IX. In September 2002, she was appointed Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization. After that, she was re-elected a member of the Central Committee of the Party, elected to the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, term X. At the 12th National Assembly session, Ms. Tong Thi Phong was elected to the position of Vice President. National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. At the 13th National Assembly session, she was re-elected to this position on July 22, 2011. At the 14th National Assembly session on July 22, 2016, Ms. Tong Thi Phong was elected as the Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Mrs. Tong Thi Phong. was rated as a prominent female politician of Vietnamese politics in the past 10 years. She is the first woman from an ethnic minority area to hold the highest position in the Party organization ever.
Last January 17, 2017, Ms. Tong Thi Phong - Editor-in-Chief The Politburo, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and relevant agencies on behalf of the Party and State leaders visited, wished New Year, and gave gifts to disadvantaged households in Bac Giang province. During this business trip, Politburo member Tong Thi Phong expressed her joy at the development of the Bac Giang . In 2016, Bac Giang had a positive change in terms of economic and social development, budget revenue reached a good level.
