Dara was raised in the Philippines, when she was 10 years old, her family moved to Muntinlupa city to facilitate business. Then, in 2004 she met Pauleen Luna who encouraged her to audition for the Star Cirde Quest. After participating in the contest, she entered the top 10 most promising candidates and placed 2nd in the final. After the competition, she joined ABS-CBN Entertainment in the group Star Magic in many programs with many projects appearing on TV. She played lead roles in many films, first Bcuz Of U in 2004 followed by Can This Be Love in 2005 which earned great grossing value and was nominated for "Best Performance by an actress in a leadership role (Musical Or Comedy)" in 2005 at the Golden Soreen Awards. She also became the best actress in the Philippines in the 21st Movie Dress Club Star Awards. Along with her acting work, Dara also released her debut music album to develop her own music career and succeed. In 2009, she officially joined the group 2NE1, before that she also appeared in the drama The Retum Of Lljimae as Rie and the female lead of Gummy's together with TOP and released their solo album "Heart Breaker" with the title track "Hello.
By July 2010, Dara was cast as the female lead in Taeyang "I Need A Girl".
