Pioneering African-American biologist who is best known for studying the role of the cell surface in the development of organisms. His autobiography Black Apollo Science: The Life of Ernest Everett Just, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1984.
He was briefly imprisoned in a Nazi POW camp while he is researching an article in France but researched by the US State Department.
