As for Pham Duy Ton, he clearly stated his point of view in the article "Responsibility of a journalist" published on Luc Tinh Tan Van. Author Hoang Son Cong commented: "Responsibility of journalist is one of the first articles in Vietnam discussing the role, responsibility and ethics of journalist, expressed in the form of an argumentative essay with a style very typical of Pham Duy Ton: humorous but serious, solemn but passionate".
Pham Duy Ton wrote very little literature, only 4 works. However, he is still considered an influential writer on Vietnamese literature. He is considered as a pioneer who paved the way for the brilliant achievements of Vietnamese literature in the later period. His most successful work must be mentioned is "Life and death wearing flying!". This is one of the most famous short stories of Pham Duy Ton, also the first short story of the new Vietnamese literature. The work was printed in the newspaper Nam Phong in December 1918. "Life and death in flight" does not have the same opening as classic prose works before it, it opens with a direct description of what is going on, typical of "a new style of writing". In one work he was able to immediately succeed in portraying two completely opposite images. On one side is the image of farmers panicking and despairing at the scene of natural disasters, and on the other hand is the image of mandarins sitting leisurely as if nothing happened.
Writer Pham Duy Ton is also a writer. a politician. In 1919, he was elected to the Council of Deputies Hanoi city. He was a member of the Tonkin House of Representatives (1920-1923). In 1922, he and some intellectuals and officials of the colonial government such as Pham Quynh, Nguyen Van Vinhh, Vu Huy Quang attended the International Exhibition (ie Dou Chiu) in Marseilles, France.

In 1901, he graduated from Hanoi School of Interpretation.
After graduation, he was appointed as an interpreter of the embassy Ninh Binh and then moved to Thi Cau (envoy Bac Ninh). Pham Duy Ton taught at Tri Tri School, Hang Quat Street, Hanoi.
At that time, he was one of the few Vietnamese people who cut their hair short and wore European clothes.

When no longer teaching, Pham Duy Ton borrowed money to open a gold shop named Nam Bao. The gold shop failed, he and some friends went to find mines in Quang Yen, but he showed no interest in this.
After that, he was introduced by a French friend to work for the branch of the Bank of Indochina (Banque d'Indochine) in Mong Tu, China. However, after only working for a while, he returned to Vietnam to participate in writing and journalism.
