Trinh Gia Dinh was raised in Hong Kong, from a young age he attended Hoa Nhan Primary School, then Alhambra High School and Hong Kong International School. However, during the time he went to school, he spent 2 years living with his uncle when he was 12 years old.
After finishing high school, he moved to the US and attended the school. University of California majoring in civil engineering however he failed to complete his degree after the death of his father, he decided to pursue a career in singing. Although before he was 16 years old, he also participated in the "New Talent Selection" contest organized by TVB but gave up midway. He then decided to sign with PolyGram in 1993, in the same year he also released his first album. The album earned him the award for Favorite New Artist in 1994. He then moved on to collaborate with the Taiwanese entertainment industry, where he also released albums and acted in the same year. Some films however did not bring him much success. It wasn't until his role in the movie Dao Sword that accidentally helped him become famous and signed a contract with TVB, then he also participated in a number of movies that made a strong impression such as "Love under the sky".
