After earning a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Miami and pursuing graduate courses in psychology at the University of Houston, he began his broadcasting career at a Texas City radio station. Clear Lake and soon began work for the Houston KTRH station. He began hosting the television program AM Los Angeles in 1986.
He was born in New York City. With his wife, Jean Edwards, he brought up children named Greg and Julie.
