The sixteenth American President who led the country through the terrible American Civil War and helped abolish slavery with the 13th Amendment.
He and Democrat Stephen A. Douglas joined in seven debates in the 1858 Senate campaign, which would become America's most famous political debates.

He and a friend bought a small store in New Salem, Illinois, when he was 23, but they struggled to make it a success and Lincoln soon sold off his shares.
He married Mary Todd in November 1842 after having previously called off the engagement. His last descendant was his nephew Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, who died in 1985.
