When Tran Tu Khanh saw that the citadel was vacant, he brought his troops to the capital, and To Trung Tu was buried in Hoach village. Hue Tong heard from Doan Thuong and Doan Van Loi that Tran Tu Khanh wanted to bring troops back to the court to plot the overthrow of the monarchy, so he issued a decree to beat Tran Tu Khanh and demoted Tran Thi Dung to be a royal woman.
