Who is War hero George W Randolph?
This prominent and cultivated nineteenth century lawyer is perhaps best remembered for his service in the American Civil War as the Secretary of War of the states. He joined the Confederate Army as a major and began to rise through the ranks after participating in the Battle of Big Bethel (Virginia) in 1861.
In the years following the war, he lived in England and France. A year before he died of tuberculosis, he returned to his native Virginia and was laid to rest at Monticello (Jefferson's family homestead).

Family life info

He married Mary Elizabeth Adams Pope in 1852. The son of Martha Jefferson Randolph and grandson of three United States President Thomas Jefferson, he was also related on his father's side to Jamestown colony John Rolfe and his wife Rolfe's Native Americans, Pocahontas.
