After witnessing a massacre carried out by Trujillo, she founded, with her three sisters, an anti-Trujillo organization called the Fourteen Months Movement.
Her husband, as well as the spouses of her sisters Minerva and Maria Teresa, have been jailed for his political activities. On their way to visit her husband in prison, the sisters were intercepted by a government-ordered assassin.
