He studied engineering at the Escuela Libre de Ingenieros in Guadalajara, from which he graduated in 1923. He later toured Spain and France, where he was introduced to the literature of the writer-art designer. Dr. Ferdinand North, who became a major source of inspiration for him.
His family was residing in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, when he was born. He married and had three children.
