Inspired by the Pueblo Deco style; built a number of landmark hotels and motels throughout the southwestern United States, including Hopi's house, Rest Hermit's, Lookout Studio observatory, and four Mary Jane Colter buildings, all classified as Calendar Landmarks National history.
She considers La Posada Hotel in Arizona to be her masterpiece.

She traveled with her family as a child throughout the borders of Minnesota, Texas, and Colorado. Her father passed away in 1886.
