She and her brother Ravinder began working in the alcohol industry in 1999 while studying engineering at the University of Calgary. Her parents owned a chain of liquor stores and her career began with importing private label spirits for those liquor stores. She and Ravinder founded Minhas Craft Brewery and Minhas Distillery in Monroe, Wisconsin, and Minhas Brewery in Calgary, Alberta.
She was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta with her brother and business partner Ravinder Minhas, and her parents. She and her husband Harvey Shergill have two daughters.
