Prolific Irish radio and composer and writer known for his orchestral and chamber music. He was also a successful painter, mainly of surrealist works, and joined the white group Stag in the 1940s.
He was a professor of music at Trinity College, Dublin, for 20 years and also served as conductor of the Dublin Play Orchestra, the successful Havelock Nelson.
