Directors Ha Le Diem

Ha Le Diem is known for being honored as Best Director at the Amsterdam International Documentary Festival in late November 2021, with the film Children Of The Mist.

Born and raised in Bung village, Bac Kan, since childhood, Le Diem has been Grandfather - a primary school teacher read a lot of books. After school, the highland children often hang around behind her friend's feet to listen to stories. Because of that, her interest in storytelling was deeply ingrained in her personality, and she chose journalism to study. But after graduating from school to work in a few major press and television agencies, Diem still felt that it was not suitable for her quiet and introverted personality. Through 2 filmmaking courses at TPD Cinema Talent Development Support Center in 2012 and Varan Vietnam Documentary Creation Camp in 2016, Le Diem determined to follow the path of independent documentary filmmaking. Diem's ​​first movie "The way to school" was born when she was still a student, with 2 million VND support from TPD. The film won the Silver Kite Award in 2013 in the short film category (there was no Golden Kite that year).

In the early days of making Children Of The Mist, it was almost like Diem Diem. not get everyone's support. Diem's ​​mother shared that no mother wants her daughter to work hard, so she is very opposed to her child quitting a stable job at a big press agency, being alone with her daughter. There were times when mother and daughter were tense, she talked a lot, but Diem just kept quiet. Even close friends objected and advised Diem to take an easier path. Director Tran Phuong Thao, Diem's ​​teacher in Varan shared, initially when she heard Diem talk about the project In this film, she intervened because she was afraid that Diem would lose the opportunity to develop. She suggested that she should follow the path of television, but Diem replied: "The rhythm of television is not suitable for me". During the first two years of filming, director Thao only received help like a previous person. Gradually through the frames, she realized that Diem was extremely persistent, the crew was very touched by Diem's ​​passion, so they trusted and admired her. award, because it is really Diem's ​​film, her person", director Tran Phuong Thao shared. For Le Diem, the best director award is the biggest recognition she has received.
