Born and raised in the Stockholm suburb of Enskede, Johanna and her sister Klara are the daughters of a film professor mother and a musician-historical-rock teacher father. The siblings' brother "was instrumental in helping to establish their musical careers, as he happened to go to school with the children of electronic musician Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife), who ended up signing Johanna and Klara to label their first music.
