Leonard Cohen full name is Leonard Norman Cohen, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, writer, and painter. His works are mainly about religion, politics, isolation, sex, and personal relationships. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Roll Hall of Fame. He is also a Companion of the Order, Canada's highest civilian honor. In 2011, he received the Prince of Asturias Awards for literature and the Glenn Gould Prize.
During the 1950s and early 1960s, Leonard Cohen pursued a career as a poet and novelist. and it was not until 1963 that he officially started his music career. Cohen's first album titled "Songs of Leonard Cohen" was released in 1967. He then released three subsequent albums, "Songs from a Room" released in 1969, "Songs of Love and Hate" released in 1969. " released in 1971 and "New Skin for the Old Ceremony" released in 1974. In 1977 the disc "Death of a Ladies" was released by him and Phil Spector, co-writer and producer, released to the public. In 1979, Cohen returned to his traditional music style, which is an acoustic style with a little jazz and Eastern and Mediterranean influences. "Hallelujah" was first released on Cohen's studio album "Various Positions" in 1984. The 1988 album "I'm Your Man" is his most famous album.
In 2011, he released his 10th studio album titled "Ten New Songs", which was a huge hit in the Canadian and European music markets. Cohen's 11th studio album, "Dear Heather", was released in 2004. After a series of successful tours from 2008-2010, Cohen released 3 albums in the last 4 years of his life including "Old" Ideas" in 2012, "Popular Problems" in 2014 and "You Want It Darker" in 2016.
Leonard Cohen died on November 7, 2016 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
