McCormick attended Rosemont College from 1974 to 1978. She then earned her Master of Science "Master of Science" from Columbia University College of Journalism, she studied for her master's from 1985 to 1986 and became a Master's "A Master of Fine Arts" at New School in 1999.
She is now an editor for a number of newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Ladies Home Journal, Town & Country and Digest Reader.
