He graduated from University, Cardiff and later taught English at various grammar schools in the West Midlands region of England. He published his first novel, Rat Trap, in 1976.
He is the son of a tabloid writer called JBG Thomas. He died of leukemia and pneumonia at the age of sixty-eight and was survived by his wife, Jill.
