She is the second oldest of four daughters born to Abby May Alcott and educated experimental and prominent Transcendentalist, Amos Bronson Alcott. She and her Anna sisters--, Elizabeth, and Abigail-- were the inspiration for the fictional sisters (Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy May) in Little Women.
