Who is Painter Nguyen Phan Chanh?
Painter Nguyen Phan Chanh is considered a famous painter in the art of silk painting with an estimated number of over 170 works. With a large number of works, Nguyen Phan Chanh is currently the artist who holds the record for the number of works displayed at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.
At the 1931 Paris painting exhibition, Director Victor Tardieu brought some silk paintings of Nguyen Phan Chanh to France for introduction. This is also the first time the French public has enjoyed the art of Vietnamese silk painting. The painting "Rice Seller" (French name is La marchand de riz) sold for a record $390, 000 at Christie's International's auction in Hong Kong on May 27, 2013. This was the highest selling price in the painting market at that time. It can be said that painter Nguyen Phan Chanh is the one who brought glory to Vietnamese silk paintings in the world painting arena, and also laid the foundation for modern Vietnamese silk paintings.
A number of silk paintings by artist Nguyen Phan Chanh have been exhibited in countries around the world such as: Italy in 1934, San Francisco - USA in 1937, Tokyo - Japan in 1940.
In 1957 , he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, term I. In 1962, he was a delegate to the 3rd National Congress of Heroes and Emulation Fighters. Painter Nguyen Phan Chanh also worked as a painting lecturer at the University of Fine Arts.
Painter Nguyen Phan Chanh died on November 22, 1984 in Hanoi. His body was interred at Mai Dich Cemetery.

He graduated from Hue National College of Education in 1922. He used to teach at Dong Ba Hue Primary School.
In 1928, he began to compose oil paintings: "The mother gives her children knitting", "The farmer and his wife pull the rice". and also this year he started to learn to draw on Yunnan silk and succeeded. He graduated in 1930.
After the August Revolution, Nguyen Phan Chanh was a standing member of the Provincial Cultural Association for National Salvation.
In 1928, he began to compose oil paintings: "The mother gives her children knitting", "The farmer and his wife pull the rice". and also this year he started to learn to draw on Yunnan silk and succeeded. He graduated in 1930.
