Bob Hoover is known as a former pilot with a job as a test pilot of fighter aircraft in the United States Air Force. Dubbed the greatest pilot in history with the nickname "pilot of pilots".

Young / Before famous

Bob Hoover used to work for a grocery store to raise money for actual flying lessons at Nashville's Berry Field. Then he joined the Tennessee National Guard and was sent to study as a pilot for the Army.
During World War II he was sent on a mission to Casablanca. Then he moved to work at the Spitfire 52d fighter group in Sicily.
In 1944, while in flight, his plane was shot down off the southern coast of France. He was taken prisoner and held for 16 months at the Stalag Luft 1 in Barth prison in Germany.
Bob Hoover escaped prison by stealing an Fw 190 and flying to the Netherlands.
In 1948 he left the US Air Force and continued other civilian jobs.
He used to work at the Allison engine company. He later worked as a test pilot for North American Aviation, where he taught pilots in Korea how to bomb with the F-86 Saber.
In the 1950s he had many flight tests with him. aircraft types FJ-1 Fury, F-86 Saber, and F-100 Super Saber.
In the 1960s he flew many flights around North America with his P-51 Mustang.
Mr. continued to work at North American Aviation until his retirement in 1990.
