Who is Poet Gabriela Mistral?
Born Lucila Godoy Alcayaga and better known by her pen name Gabriela Mistral, this Chilean poet was the 1945 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature. She also received the 1951 Chilean National Prize for Literature, and the Sonetos she de la Muerte Poetry Collection won the Juegos Florales Literary Competition in 1914.
Her poetry was greatly and deeply influenced by the 1909 self. death of her friend Romelio Ureta.

Family life info

The daughter of teacher Juan Geronimo Godoy Villanueva and tailor Petronila Alcayaga, she was born in Vicuna, Chile, and raised in Montegrande. Her older sister, Emelina Molina, was her first teacher.
