He is currently living and composing in Hanoi.

- From 1968 - 1971, he was a young volunteer to build a mountainous cultural economy Tuyen Quang. After that, he returned to Ha Bac Culture Department.
- From 1971 to 1975, he entered the battlefield in the Southeast region (B2).
- From 1975 to 1977, he held the position of head of the literary and artistic newspaper of Liberation.
- From 1978 - 1996, he worked as head of the reporter department, head of poetry department... Van Nghe newspaper. After that, he held the position of Deputy Head of the Young Writers Committee in 1983 - 2000 (concurrently).
- In 1988, attended a short-term advanced study course at the M. Gorki Literary Institute, Moscow, Soviet Union (former).
- From In 1996 - 2001, he moved to become the director of the Vietnam Literature Museum.
- Since 2002, he has worked at the Writers Association's Composition Committee.
