Republican politician who became the United States representative for the congressional district of Alaska in 1973, and is often referred to as Alaska's third senator. He began his 22nd consecutive term in 2012.
Before he entered politics, he was the captain of a tugboat, running a barge operation to deliver products and supplies. for villages along the Yukon River, and teaches fifth grade at the Indian Primary Schools Department of Home Affairs.
