Known best for his 1985 award-winning album O Lado Errado da Noite and for his single popular "Deixa-me RIR," this Portuguese singer later formed a musical group called Palma of the Gang and also joined the band Rio Grande.
In the late 1980s, he temporarily suspended his recording work to complete his piano studies at the Portuguese National Conservatory.

He was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. During the early years of his marriage to Gisela Brande, he lived in Denmark to avoid military service during the Portuguese colonial war.
