In 1997, John Mayer and a friend, Clay Cook, moved to Atlanta to form the band Lo-Fi Masters. After this band disbanded, John Mayer was still active in music here. In 2001, he participated in the South by Southwest Festival. He signed with Aware Records, and later signed with Columbia Records to release his debut EP titled "Inside Wants Out". He then released two full-length albums, "Room for Squares" in 2001 and "Heavier Things" in 2003. In 2003, John Mayer won a Grammy Award in the category of "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for single "Your Body Is a Wonderland".
John Mayer started out with an acoustic rock style, but when he switched to blues, he received enthusiastic support from the audience. In 2005, he collaborated with many blues artists such as: B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy. Also in 2005, John Mayer released his 5th album "Try!". In 2006, he released his 3rd studio album "Continuum". Both albums received enthusiastic support from the audience, especially the album "Continuum" helped John Mayer receive a Grammy Award nomination in the category of "Best Pop Vocal Album". He also won the "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" award for "Waiting on the World to Change".
