King of Great Britain for eleven months in 1936, who abdicated his throne so that he could marry an American divorcee. He was succeeded by his younger brother Albert, better known as King George VI, and he was one of the shortest reigning monarchs in British and Commonwealth history.
During World War II, he was first stationed with British troops on a mission to France but, after allegedly believing that he had organized Nazi sympathies, he was assigned to Bahamas as Governor of the island.
