Since childhood, CL lived mostly in Japan and France in Paris, Tsukuba Science City and Tokyo. At the age of 13 she moved alone to Paris to continue her studies for 2 years. Then at the age of 15, she participated in an audition held by YG Entertainment and she was accepted by JYP Entertainment to train before she joined YG Entertainment.
She started her career in 2007 recording Bigbang's song Intro (Hot Issue); later that year she also made her first stage appearance and her performance was broadcast on Seoul radio.
She and her bandmates had collaborated with Big Bang sang "Lollipop" before the group officially debuted on May 17, 2009 on SBS's Music Trends. Here, she became the leader and rapper of the group 2NE1. After the single "I Don't Care" was released, it brought success to the group when this song received the "Song of the Year" award at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards and became the first group. won a Daesang for her debut song
In August 2009, she collaborated with G-Dragon and Teddy Park released the single "The Leaders", from G-Dragon's first solo album with Heartbreaker name. At the same time, she and her bandmates released the song "Please Don't Go" which peaked at #6 on the Gaon Chart at the end of November of that year.
On May 28, 2013, she released her debut single "The Baddest Female" and she wrote the songs "Crush", "If I Were You" and "Baby I Miss You" from the group's 2nd album "Crush".
