Scottish physicist considered by some to be the father of modern physics because of his discoveries about electromagnetism. His work laid the foundations for fields such as relativity and special quantum mechanics.
In his 1865 publication, A Dynamic Theory of Electric Currents in 1865, he demonstrated that electric and magnetic fields travel through space as waves traveling at the speed of light.
