Rachel Ward full name is Rachel Claire Ward, is a British actress, model, director, journalist and screenwriter born in Australia.
During her modeling career, Rachel has appeared on the cover of Vogue, Harper's & Queen and Cosmopolitan. In 1977 she moved to the United States and starred in television commercials such as Lincoln Mercury's "Cougar Girl" and Revlon's "Scoundrel Girl". In 1981 she received a Golden Globe Award in the category "New Star of the Year" for her role in the film "Sharky's Machine" with actor Burt Reynolds. In 1981, she starred in the movie "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" with actor Steve Martin. In 1983, a turning point in Rachel's career when she received the lead role of Meggie Cleary in the movie "The Thorn Birds" with actor Richard Chamberlain. This role earned her a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Actress" for a miniseries or television series. In the same year, Rachel was voted by the US audience as one of the top 10 most beautiful women in the world. In 1984, she played the role of Jess in the movie "Against All Odds" with actor Jeff Bridges. After 'Fortress' was filmed in 1985, Rachel took a break from the limelight to attend acting classes.
In 1987 Rachel returned to the stage with her husband, actor Bryan Brown in the movie "The Umbrella Woman". In 2001, she went on to win another one. She was nominated for a Golden Globe in the "Best Actress" category for a short film or television series for her performance in "On the Beach." In the same year she won the Australian Film Institute Award for Film.
