Naver was born in June 1999 and is the first search portal in Korea with a self-developed search engine. In August 2000, Naver started a comprehensive search service, allowing users to find very large numbers of results after just one search visit on a page, sorting themselves into topics including: blogs, websites, images, cafes,... this function is even ahead of Google when 5 years later, Google just launched the same "global search" feature.
In the beginning, Naver had a very limited number of Korean websites available. To overcome that problem, Naver became the first pioneer in allowing users to create their own content by creating the service 'Knowledge iN. From there, the user can ask questions on multiple domains choosing the best answer from among the answers given by other users, and can award points to the user who gives it. Knowledge iN was born 3 years earlier than similar service 'Yahoo! Answers' by Yahoo!.
Naver launched an online comic service 'Webton' in 2004 and a personal blog service in 2005. From 2005 to 2007, Naver expanded the service. multimedia search service: search for music and videos.
