Better known as "Wild Horse Annie," she is remembered for her animal rights activism on behalf of donkeys and wild Mustangs.
She was instrumental in ensuring the passage of both Public Law 86-234 (which put an end to murder and the capture of feral horses on state property) and over all inclusive both the Wild and the Free-Roaming Horse and the Donkey Act of 1971, signed by President Richard Nixon. She was profiled in a 1959 issue of Time magazine.
