Nguyen Cat Tuong or Lemur Cat Tuong is a Vietnamese painter. He was the first person to improve the traditional Ao Dai and was the one who invented many types of clothes for Vietnamese women.
Since 1928, he started studying at the College of Fine Arts Indochina. In 1933 he graduated. Since 1934, Vietnamese women began to like wearing colored shirts, that's why Cat Tuong designed a series of ao dai in the 1934 magazine Dep in Phong Hoa newspaper with the name "Lemur". In addition to designing modern ao dai, he also designed clothes suitable for the body, increasing the beauty of women. Another improvement of Cat Tuong, which was enthusiastically supported by the people of this period, was the fine-artization of the bicycle cyclo.
