Leigh Whannell is an Australian screenwriter, actor, producer and director. As a screenwriter, he is known for the films Saw, Dead Silence, Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2. As a director, Whannell directed his first film, Insidious: Chapter 3.

Leigh Whannell and director James Wan is a serial producer of the Saw movies. In particular, the first part of Saw was written by Whannell, while the 2nd and 3rd parts were co-written by him with Wan. He co-produced, directed, and starred as Adam Stanheight on Saw in four seasons. The movie Saw III grossed $33,610,391 in just one week of its release, and grossed $129,927,001 after 38 days in cinemas worldwide.

He is also the creator of the video game Saw, and co-writer of the 2014 movie Cooties.
