An American fiction author and physician, he is known for his semi-autobiographical novel, That Shouldn't Die. Two of his other novels, Sangaree and the Doctor's Wife, were made into films (1953 and 1971, respectively). His books sold up to sixty million copies in his lifetime.
He worked in Jacksonville, Florida, as a doctor and began writing novels about the party.
