Baseman Second nicknamed "The Brat" who made All-Star track out games as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves and New York Giants. He was a player and coach during his time with St. Louis Cardinals and was named Major League Manager of the Year in 1952. He defended Dodgers teammate Jackie Robinson against racist insults during Robinson's first season in Major League Baseball.
