Trinh Linh Giang is one of the notable names in Pickleball Vietnam, especially after winning the men's singles championship at Panas Malaysia Open 2025, the opening tournament of the PPA Tour Asia system. The victory over Indian tennis player Vanshik Kapadia on July 6, 2025 helped Linh Giang become the first men's singles champion of the country. Vietnam at a tournament of the PPA Tour Asia professional system.
Trinh Linh Giang's career journey
Top players in Vietnamese men's tennis
Trinh Linh Giang started being involved with tennis from a young age and gradually matured through the domestic competition system. With good mobility, technical foundation and highly competitive spirit, he quickly became one of the notable players in Vietnamese men's tennis.
However, Linh Giang's road is not completely flat. In the early years of his career, he attracted attention because of his strong personality and hot-tempered reactions on the field. Mental problems in competition once caused the Hanoi tennis player's career to be at risk of stalling.
The turning point came when Linh Giang joined the Hai Dang Tay Ninh team. The new environment and support from the team helped him gradually change his approach to competition, becoming more calm and professional.
That change is clearly shown at SEA Games 31 in 2022. In the quarterfinals, Linh Giang defeated number 2 seed Kasidit Samrej with a score of 6-3,5-7,6-3. Then, he continued to defeat No. 3 seed Mick Lescure Sadettan with a score of 7-6,7-6 in the semi-finals.
This result puts Linh Giang in the all-Vietnam final against Ly Hoang Nam. Although he could not win the gold medal after losing to his teammate, reaching the final became one of the most memorable milestones in his tennis career.
Falling in love with Pickleball
After many years of playing tennis, Linh Giang began to switch to Pickleball during a period when this sport was rapidly developing in Vietnam.
The transformation is not too surprising because Pickleball has many similarities with tennis in terms of movement skills, ball feeling, ability to handle on both sides and tactical thinking. The tennis background helps Linh Giang quickly adapt to the specifics of Pickleball.
In particular, he not only competes in singles but also often teams up with Ly Hoang Nam, who once held the No. 1 position in Vietnamese tennis. The combination of two players who faced each other in the SEA Games final creates an interesting story of Pickleball Vietnam: opponents on the tennis court now become teammates in a new sport.
