Ly Duc is considered the golden athlete of Vietnamese bodybuilding, the first athlete to win medals at international tournaments. During his peak for 7 consecutive years, Ly Duc had no opponent in the 80kg weight class at the Asian championships.
Ly Duc started his career as a professional bodybuilder in 1984. His most outstanding achievement so far is 4th place in the world bodybuilding tournament in 1999. The 2002 Asian Games in Busan (Korea) is a landmark. the most brilliant of Vietnam's sports in the continental arena. Ly Duc contributed 1 out of 4 gold medals won by the Vietnamese sports team at this Games. In addition, Ly Duc also won 5 consecutive Asian championships from 1997-2001 and 4 gold medals at the Southeast Asian championships... When he was still competing, Ly Duc's menu included 2 kg of chicken, 15 Egg white, milk, nutritional powder...
Ly Duc was awarded the first, second and third class Labor Medals by the Prime Minister, Sports Committee, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. Creative Youth Medal of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth Union Ho Chi Minh and the title "Successful Chinese" ".
He was voted as the typical national athlete in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002.
Having retired from his competitive career, Ly Duc focused on studying to get a university degree. . After that, he was invited by the University of Finance - Economics and Hong Bang International University to be a lecturer in physical fitness for students.
Currently, Ly Duc is working as a coach for the HCMC team. Ho Chi Minh City and there is a fitness club named after him at 117A Nguyen Tat Thanh district 4.
