Hieu Hien was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, he is the youngest son of the late artist Kim Ngoc and artist Duc Lang. Hieu Hien used to perform many comedy shows with his mother and comedy group Kim Ngoc for many years, with the typical plays Recruiting Hostesses, Pregnant Woman, and playing many supporting roles in movies.
In December 2010, Hieu Hien married Thuy Lien.
On January 16, 2011, artist Kim Ngoc - Hieu Hien's mother suddenly passed away due to a stroke. In 2012, he and his wife gave birth to a baby boy and named him Hieu Nhan.
