Who is Dramatist Ama Ata Aidoo?
A twentieth century Ghanaian author, she is known for her place in history as having published the first African female playwright. Also a writer and poet, she received the 1992 Commonwealth Writers' Award for her novel, Change, and the Mandela Nelson Award for her 1986 collection of poetry, Who Exchanges With Sometimes.
She was appointed Ghana's Minister of Education in 1982 but resigned after eighteen months when she could not complete her goals.

She decided at age fifteen that she wanted to become a writer and accomplished this goal by attending Wesley Girls' High School in Cape Coast and the University of Ghana in Legon. She announced her theatrical debut, A Ghost's Dilemma, in 1965.

Her father was chief Nana Yaw Fama, a Fante royal who influenced her daughter's writing career by establishing the first school in their village Saltpond, Ghana.
