With a passion for football since childhood, Van Kien was determined to follow the path of professional football. He was well-trained at the Hanoi T&T football club training academy and then played in the club's lineup.
Van Kien holds an official position in the squads from the U19s to the U19s. U21. In 2016, Van Kien was promoted to Hanoi's first team to participate in the Vleague national championship by the coaching staff.
In June 2017, Van Kien was summoned by coach Nguyen Huu Thang to the Vietnam U23 team to participate. Attending the 2018 Asian U23 qualifiers and the 29th SEA Games.
At the end of 2017, Van Kien was given a new coach Park Hang-Seo was summoned to the list of U23 Vietnam team to prepare for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, but then the medical team determined that he had a heart condition and the coach Koreans did not hesitate to cross his name in the list. Van Kien was returned to the management club. Van Kien was really disappointed and he burst into tears right on the training ground.
But not because of that, Van Kien was discouraged, he continued to practice and assert himself. Van Kien played brilliantly and continued to be one of the irreplaceable pillars in Hanoi FC this season. He always plays with a full physical strength, not missing any match of the Capital team in all fronts. Witnessing Van Kien's silent efforts during the past time, Coach Park Hang-Seo had to rethink his decision. And like a miracle, Van Kien was called up by Mr. Park to attend the King's Cup tournament in Thailand.
