He later formed the Platinum-selling supergroup The Traveling Wilburys and had a successful solo career, marked by the triple album 1970 All Things Must Pass.
He and sitar player Ravi Shankar organized two benefit concerts on 1 August 1971 called The Concert for Bangladesh to raise awareness for refugees from East Pakistan after the Liberation War Bangladesh.

He auditioned to join Paul McCartney and John Lennon in The Quarrymen March 1958, performing the song "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" by Arthur Smith for him. McCartney began to consider him too young, at the age of 15, but Harrison won him over. A few months after Harrison officially joined the band The Quarrymen renamed themselves The Beatles.
He was married to Pattie Boyd on 21, 1966. After their divorce on June 9, 1977 , he married Olivia Harrison on September 1, 1978. He had a son named Dhani.
