At the age of 5, Luke and his siblings were taught to cook by their father. At the age of 14, he opened his own restaurant and became a professional chef. It's his job, but it's also his passion. When someone asked Luke about Vietnamese cuisine, he replied that food Viet is very nutritious, delicious, lots of rolls, light but delicate flavor, not too sweet, not too spicy but very easy to eat. Vietnamese cuisine is really different from Asian food in Laos, Thailand, China, Taiwan...
Vietnam also has many dishes that have become famous in the world such as banh mi, pho, spring rolls... Luke's restaurants in Australia and Hong Kong also serve dishes with typical flavors of Hoi An, Da Nang, Hanoi. But he has a special impression of Hanoi's everyday foods, because they have a mild flavor and don't have many ingredients, including Pho.
Luke Nguyen or Luke Nguyen is a famous Vietnamese-Australian chef. He succeeded with the Vietnamese restaurant chain Red Lantern in Surry Hills, Sydney. He has also published many cookbooks such as: The Songs of Sapa, Secrets Of The Red Lantern, Luke Nguyen's Greater Mekong, Indochine and The Food Of Vietnam. Luke Nguyen also participates in programs about Vietnamese cuisine, how to enjoy traditional Vietnamese cuisine. He was also a guest judge on Australia Masterchef part 2, and is currently the main judge of King of Chefs: MasterChef Vietnam.
Luke Nguyen was born in a refugee camp in Thailand. In 1979, his family moved to Australia to live. To make ends meet, Luke's parents opened a small restaurant selling Vietnamese food in Cabramatta, Sydney called "Pho Cay Umbrella".
