Who is Literator Joseph Campbell?

Joseph Campbell's full name is Joseph John Campbell, is a mythologist, author, and lecturer. He is best known as an author of myths and books on religion. Joseph Campbell's compositional style and philosophy are encapsulated in the phrase "Follow your bliss".

In 1924, during a trip to Europe with his family, when returning to Campbell, he met him. Jiddu Krishnamurti, they discussed Indian philosophy and from there Campbell became more interested in Hinduism and Indian thought culture. It was from here that he diligently researched and composed works on myths, heroes, religions and cultures of nations.

October 30, 1987 Joseph Campbell died. at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii. Before his death he had a battle with esophageal cancer.

Young / Before famous

In 1921 Joseph Campbell graduated from Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut. While studying at Dartmouth College, he spent a lot of time studying mathematics and biology but later decided to pursue his hobby of literature. He transferred to Columbia University, where he received a BA in English literature in 1925 and an MA in medieval literature in 1927. At Dartmouth, he joined the Delta Tau Delta.

Family life info

Joseph Campbell is the son of Josephine (née Lynch) and Charles William Campbell. He came from a middle-class Irish Catholic family. In 1919 his family suffered a fire and his paternal grandmother died at the family home in New Rochelle.
In 1938, he married Jean Erdman. The couple lived together until his death in 1987.
