  • At the 8th annual Chicago International Film Festival, Linwood G. Dunn was honored to receive the Golden Hugo Award and was awarded an honorary doctorate of fine arts from the San Francisco Institute of the Arts. In addition, he received many similar awards from technical colleges, arts and other technical institutions.
  • In 1949 he won the Academy Award for special effects in the film. Mighty Joe Young in collaboration with Willis O'Brien.
  • In 1984 he received the Gordon E. Sawyer Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was awarded as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Honorary Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
  • Twice Linwood G. Dunn has been elected president of the Association of Cinematographers of America, and has been elected governor of the institute. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in two different branches. He served as treasurer for AMPAS for one term.
  • For his initiatives and contributions to the film industry, his name is given to the Linwood Dunn theater as a part of the Pickford Center located at 1313 North Vine Street in Hollywood.
