Before launching her career as an artist, she trained at the Otis College of Art and Design and at Santa Monica College.
She grew up in Buckinghamshire, England, the only child of a Caribbean-Indian father and an English mother. In the late 1990s, she moved to Los Angeles, California, U. S.A.
